I tried to watch Moulin Rouge on tv and got bored very quickly.
It's nothing but a very long video clip, and I didn't feel anything, except a certain annoyance like the one inspired by advertising videos of Chanel n°5 starring Nicole Kidman or worse, the last H&M one!
The video clip generation must have loved it...but movies-wise it's a heavy piece pretending to be daring and original. It isn't creative it's simply pompier.
I kinda liked Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet though...Oh well.

Maybe I was very much in the mood for a stupid lovestory at that point.
The best Baz Luhrman film is still Strictly Ballroom. It's a really cheesy ugly ducklin turns into very beautiful dancer film, but I love it. The mantra "A life lived in fear is a life only half lived" that forms the breaking point of that film is a good one to actually live by. :-)

Date: 2005-12-30 06:19 pm (UTC)It didn't have any emotional impact on me, but I enjoyed listening to the songs for a bit and spotting actors. Haven't seen Strictly Ballroom, but I think the Romeo & Juliet version is very, very good. Even if it's got Leonardo di Caprio.
