There were 5 papers left, I could have carried on an hour more but I was fed up of marking so I quit. I'm going to get up earlier and finish tomorrow morning.

I still rewarded myself with Lost, the first half of the finale at least...

What?  My home, my rules!

So a penny for my thoughts

Sorry I couldn't help making that bad pun. If you have seen the episode you know why it is  a pun.
Ok Desmond was his first name...he was Scottish, was in her Majesty's army, went to jail, loved Dickens and loved a certain Penny (I wonder if that Pen tried tapestry while waiting for her lost sailor/soldier...) whose father was a rich and powerful man. He met up with Libby aka Elizabeth who gave him  a huge favour (but still did not sing God Save the Queen!). It kind of makes sense that he returned just after Libby died. I guess that there was only one Elizabeth there.

And Desmond's last name was....Hume!

So of course Locke and Hume had to team up since David Hume, the 18th century philosopher, was influenced by empiricists like John Locke ! Oh and the real Hume fell out with Jean Jaques Rousseau !

His theories included skepticism and also naturalism. Hume was supposed to be an atheist and at some time has been charged with heresy. But usually he managed to disguise his views especially about religions, and expressed them obliquely in his books (a  coward?) like many other philosophers (like Montesquieu in France). Locke + Hume vs Eko + Charlie makes sense.

The Lost writers do love philosophers. Rousseau, Locke , Hume...Is it me or is there a theme of Enlightment going on?

Speaking of Locke I soooo wanted to comfort him when he cried. Poor baby with his wet green eyes. And I wanted to punch Eko! Meanie !

More trivial thoughts now. Why wasn't Jack shirtless just like Sayid and Sawyer? It would have been easier to check them out and compare the three of them. I like Sawyer's eyes and dimples but I am not too fond of his upper body. I prefer Sayid's shoulders and hairy chest...but I think that Jack's flat belly is nicer than his. Jack kept his top but took the time to remove his socks. So bonus points for going barefoot.

Ahh and there's Jin whose face is so so pretty. I demand regular close-ups of Jin's face.

I should go to bed now...But I wanna see the second half, it's itching.

ETA: Ok I just watched the second half of the finale! Couldn't resist!

I really liked Desmond and the finale.

I think he was right when he voiced the idea that the guys in the pearl station watching "our" hatch were also the subject of a psychological experiment. The books they filled obviously were never picked up. Or were there props like the Others' costumes? Were there ever guys in the pearl station ?

The "I think I crashed your plane" was funny and neat.

Looks like his Peneloppe didn't do and undo tapestry after all but was seeking him all that time! Modern women are better than ancient Greek ones! Or was it simply a fantasy, what Desmond would like to believe...that she was still waiting for him ? Who knows?

I loved the idea of the hatch in a  snow tempest (it echoed the joke about snowmen Locke and Desmond shared earlier) and the guys waiting for a signal (a carrot?). Once again a computer was there. It was a nice parallel to the island hatches. They didn't play golf but chess of course! Was the yellow phone a clue?

Henry Gayle was still perfect and the "where's your beard" cracked me up. He's such a boss !

I didn't catch the name of the guy who was in the hatch before Desmond and whom Desmond killed...Can anyone help me? Did we hear his name in Sayid's flashbacks  earlier this season?

Desmond say he was going to save Locke's life. I still haven't figured it out. I have to ponder this and rewatch the episode.

I want Locke to be alive. A season 3 without Locke would be unacceptable!

Tired now...

but I'm sure he was the same dude that was in the hatch!

oh and I also read something about the statue with four toes.
Wasn't there something about a powerful source of energy for the lost continent of Atlantis?

No, it's the guy in the hatch was the guy who made Sayid do the torture. Kate's father appeared at the end of the episode in Iraq too, but it isn't the same soldier.

oh ok, so the torture man is Kelvin, and Kate's dad was with Kelvin when they dropped off Sayid? but Kelvin is not Kate's dad?

Yep the torture man is Kelvin or his twin...except that he wasn't called Kelvin when he was in Iraq.

Kelvin is not Kate's dad.

ok right, got that clear now!

Next discussion!.........

Do you believe that Claire is Jack's half sister?

I am not sure. Until now the connections between the characters in flashbacks weren't that close.

Maybe the writers only want us to believe it.

it was a bit obvious wasn't it. I think my only problem with lost is they put in this subtle little ideas and then they could just leave them, or they could come back to them and make them mean something - either way it's impossible for us to work things out!

Yes a bit too obvious.

I don't think they always know where they are going actually, so they keep the options open. Some connections might lead to revelations, others might just work as parallel and echoes.

It's like Locke's father...some people think he might have been the "real Sawyer" since he was a con man. I don't think so because he was a bit too old and I don't see him "doing" women.

No Locke is different. I think like Walt is. He feels and understands things more and has faith in the Island. Like Rose.
