I just read the most bizarre Sherlock three-part fanfiction. Not bad at all (although I could have lived without the final sex scene), but the idea it is based on isn't something I would have thought of. Yet it worked.
For the sake of the fic, the Sherlock 'verse is a bit altered and turned into a universe where people have daemons (something apparently borrowed from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials). I am not into AU and fantasy but, in this case, it sort of makes sense...

I read it because [personal profile] antennapedia , who is a good fanfic writer, recommended it; because it was Mycroft-centred and I find the character utter fascinating; and because the pitch of the first part was:

"In the pocket of his trousers, next to his phone, Mycroft carries the standard-issue steel capsule meant for protecting arthropod daemons. When people ask about it, he smiles and tells them she's not fond of the light, or of people other than himself. This is a lie."

Anyway, if you're curious, it's here.

( Hey Lynn, two C words at once!)

Just saw a post by [personal profile] st_salieri and it made me wonder if I had celebrity crushes...

Does the fact I'd watch almost any movie if either Sean Connery or Richard Gere or John Malkovich is in it mean I have a crush on them? BTW it used to be true for Harrison Ford a long time ago, but too many bad films broke the rule in regard to him. And yes I may go to see Slither just for Nathan Fillion !

Do I have a crush on Tom McRae? His music, the way he sings, his poetry move me a lot and I've been known to behave like a fangirl once or twice on LJ...

Honestly I don't know. It's hard to have a crush on someone who isn't really a real person for you, you know.

I definitely have celebrity fantasies though. Because let's be honest, their talent aside, the actors whom I mentioned do have sex-appeal or are just so pretty and charming like James Marsters! They are meant to make us fantasize, they are the stuff dreams are made on...

But I think that to have a crush on someone that person somehow must have become a familiar while a fantasy is something that is merely based on an image you have and on your own projection. So yes those celebrities took my fancy.
Knowing a lot of personal stuff about a celeb can destroy a fantasy, but I guess it also can create an illusion of familiarity that would make someone develop a crush on them.

As for me, I guess that I rather have crushes on real people living around me (which includes Internet people) or on fictional characters.

I've had crushes on characters from novels, from comic books, from cartoons, from movies, and mostly from tv shows...Those are the ones who usually become the most familiar for they stay with us for a while, so they are big on the crushometer !

7 seasons of BTVS and 1 season of Ats turned my crush on Spike into a huge infatuation, but I still have crushes on Giles, Ethan and, to a certain extent, on Wesley.

Perhaps we I read fanfictions because of those crushes...

I don't print fanfictions, I read them on screen. So discussing fanfictions fits in this LJ devoted to everything screen!

I mostly read Spuffy, but since I love the so underrated Ethan Rayne, I also read a few Ethan fictions. Giles/Ethan is my OTP because it's just so likely given to what we saw on BTVS and that 'ship works wonderfully, but I don't mind Ethan being paired with others as long as it's well written and credible. Ethan is a character that can be paired with various characters and it does work. Of course there's the famous menageverse (Ethan/Joyce/Giles) by[livejournal.com profile] sadbhyl and [livejournal.com profile] mydeira, , and [livejournal.com profile] eurydice72 wrote a great Ethan/Buffy pairing lately. I've read some good Ethan/Willow stuff too.

But there's one unusual pairing that caught my attention for a while. It's Ethan/Dawn. It may sound kinky for certain people but I think it makes sense. How couldn't Ethan not be attracted to the ball of green energy, key of the universe?

Dawn was a kind of Greek Chaos in her previous form after all. And I'm sure she would be intrigued by the Mage's charms.

So I want to recommend 3 great Ethan/Dawn fanfics. There are very different and the E/D relationship varies (friendship, sexual or something even more twisted) which points out the potential of that pairing. One is quite old, I must have read it 3 years ago: Anywhere But here by harriet_spy

The others are the short but beautifully written Degenerate Daughter by [livejournal.com profile] anidada and the sexy Old As Dirt And Just As Filfy by [livejournal.com profile] wickedfox (NC-17).

In School Hard, we met Drusilla and what was the creepiest about her was her gagged dolls that matched gagged Sheila!
Miss Edith, especially, wasn't allowed to watch Dru feeding...Why?

Dru said it was because Miss Edith spoke out of turn and was a bad example...

I used to think that Dru's dolls were a wink to the classic evil dolls in Horror flicks as well as a way to point out Dru's broken innocence. Besides when Angelus sired Dru she stopped growing up and remained a forever child, so it makes sense that she kept playing with dolls and longing for her Daddy! Miss Edith would be the imaginary friend that a lonely child makes up.

But Miss Edith was more than that. Dru seemed to foresee stuff thanks to Miss Edith's whispers and yesterday I read a (spuffy)fanfiction that I recommend, and in which the author gave an interesting explanantion concerning Miss Edith. Here's the link:

Prayers for a Poet

Basically Fetching Mad Scientist, the writer, said that Miss Edith is Dru's "magical whatzit, the leftover from her life, before" and that Drusilla was simply the name she took when becoming a vampire like a nun changed her name when taking her vows(or like Angelus was renamed Liam)) which btw makes sense since Angelus pretented to be a priest hearing her confession before he turned her, and Drusilla was Caligula's sister (and also the name of his daughter!)but "in life, Drusilla was Edith Christine Hillary. Miss Edith."

In a way Angelus played with Dru and she was his doll...the Devil's doll!

William's leftover was Spike's heart, and I think it's quite poetic if Miss Edith was Dru's double or rather a metaphor of Dru's lost humanity. Not an evil doll then, but a shelter for Dru's soul.

Maybe what I like the most in that story is that this is Spike's explanation for Miss Edith. Only a poet could come up with such an idea!
