Do you have a Celebrity Crush ?

( Hey Lynn, two C words at once!)

Just saw a post by [personal profile] st_salieri and it made me wonder if I had celebrity crushes...

Does the fact I'd watch almost any movie if either Sean Connery or Richard Gere or John Malkovich is in it mean I have a crush on them? BTW it used to be true for Harrison Ford a long time ago, but too many bad films broke the rule in regard to him. And yes I may go to see Slither just for Nathan Fillion !

Do I have a crush on Tom McRae? His music, the way he sings, his poetry move me a lot and I've been known to behave like a fangirl once or twice on LJ...

Honestly I don't know. It's hard to have a crush on someone who isn't really a real person for you, you know.

I definitely have celebrity fantasies though. Because let's be honest, their talent aside, the actors whom I mentioned do have sex-appeal or are just so pretty and charming like James Marsters! They are meant to make us fantasize, they are the stuff dreams are made on...

But I think that to have a crush on someone that person somehow must have become a familiar while a fantasy is something that is merely based on an image you have and on your own projection. So yes those celebrities took my fancy.
Knowing a lot of personal stuff about a celeb can destroy a fantasy, but I guess it also can create an illusion of familiarity that would make someone develop a crush on them.

As for me, I guess that I rather have crushes on real people living around me (which includes Internet people) or on fictional characters.

I've had crushes on characters from novels, from comic books, from cartoons, from movies, and mostly from tv shows...Those are the ones who usually become the most familiar for they stay with us for a while, so they are big on the crushometer !

7 seasons of BTVS and 1 season of Ats turned my crush on Spike into a huge infatuation, but I still have crushes on Giles, Ethan and, to a certain extent, on Wesley.

Perhaps we I read fanfictions because of those crushes...

*smooch* Merci, ma maƮtresse!

I still think Wesley is the yummiest of all of them.
Alyson is lucky to have him!

I agree with all of that!

I have a huge crush on Spike and Angel. Not sure if I crush James Marsters or not, because I think if I were to know him in real life I'd think he was full of shit and not take him very seriously. I'd like him though, in a friends way, I think.

I think I would crush on David Boreanaz in real life though. From what I've read about him and the way he seems to carry himself, and the interviews he's done recently on TV, I think I'd go head over heels in a crush for him. He seems a lot like *my* James.

But then what do I know?

Any woman who isn't turned on Richard Gere and Sean Connery is just mixed up and confused.

Oh, the celebrity crush. I only recently discovered there's a word for my swooning and drooling whenever the hunk I'm fantasising about is on the telly. I've had quite a few of those, partly because of the looks of a person, because of the character they play on the tv, or because of the general image they project. Who do we have? Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder (I was a teenager, don't ask), Johnny Depp, dEUS-singer Tom Barman (yes, I had something for not-so-good-looking singers when a teenager). More recently there was Willem Dafoe, and the lovely Daan (from the icon), and I'm kinda developing a Wesley crush since we dived into season 3 of Angel and got scruffy Wes.

Strangely enough, I do have a crush on Spike! But, I've come to realise that my crush has far more to do with the fanfic version of Spike than the flesh and blood version of the show.

I've come to realise that flesh and blood Spike is constrained by the acting talent of the actor, and I don't think I've ever seen that as more than mediocre (please don't hate me for saying that), and sometimes the writing quality of the ME stable.

In fanfiction I can turn off the versions of Spike I don't like and get turned on MORE by the many versions of Spike I do like. That is then fuelled by the additional talents of manippers out there.

Crushes on real people tend to be crushed as one gets to know the person more. In truth, JM becomes more irritating to me the more I hear about him in RL... so I try now to keep my fantasy Spike very seperate from anything to do with TVSpike or the actor. Safer for everyone, methinks!
