Cats can catch the bird flu, just like human beings (while dogs seemingly can't)...They had already their own AIDS, the FIV, and now this. They die from H5N1 virus infection in about 6 days.

We definitely have many curses in common!

Meanwhile the chikungunya fever spreads itself in La Réunion.

Can you tell I'm in a dark mood tonight?

Do your kitties go outside Chani? For some reason I thought they were house-cats and stayed in?!?!

I am worried about the cats because mine go and catch things from our local wooded area. Mostly seems to be mice at the moment, but they have caught wild birds before... *sigh*

It's nice to know yours will be OK then. Hope you are in less of a dark mood today?

A little bit, I'm too tired to have nay mood actually LOL I spent the whole day at school, teaching in the morning and examinating students int he afternoon.
Also things kind of suck at work. We (History teachers) have lost a bunch of hours again, STOLEN by the economics teachers and our Principal (not only incompetent but also a bitch)helped them, chose them over us...The pessimist in me didn't have many illusions about the way out but still. So the atmosphere at school is pretty tense. Headmasters and some colleagues are just apparachiks!

I'm currently watching a program on Krouchev's report on Staline...

I read that, about the cat. I wonder if the vaccine they have for birds is suitable for all animals? I can imagine a lot of people wanting to immunise their pets as much as themselves.

Looks like the scientists were right, last yesr. It's not a matter of if, it's only a matter of when.

The thought scares me less than it frustrates me. Knowing there's nothing preventative we can do. Gaargh.

Actually when you think of all the people who actually die from the regular flu every bloody year the whole thing seems just over the top.

I just thought it was intriguing that cats and human beings share so many virus...I guess Lovecraft would have been surprised!

Have a half bottle of Condrieu and call me in the morning.

I wonder if cats get West Nile Fever... we have that around here now.

Yeah.... it does effect birds, more often the larger ones like crows and also especially raptors. We lost a pair of great horned owls two years ago to West Nile. One would hunt in the front yard and its mate would hunt in the back. I think the red-tail hawk population has been down because of it, but this winter we've had a pair of red-tails hanging around the lawn in front of the house. Maybe they're keeping our mouse population down, like the wild cat we have hunting in the back yard.
