I had a nice evening with my colleague H. who is the unexpected Buffy fan whom I mentioned weeks ago. We went to see Syriana, which I'll try to review by the end of the week, and then had a crêpe together while drinking poiré and discussing the film and of course BTVS. He told me he was very surprised I was a Buffy fan and thought he was one of a kind! It's funny because he's older than me (in his fifties), but it feels like I have so many Buffy things to teach him. I feel like an expert because of my 4 years Internet life!

When he told me that he prefered BTVS to Ats, that, besides Giles, Spike was his favourite character (and the best Buffy character )and that Spuffy was torrid (ok he didn't say "Spuffy" and I don't think he would understand the expression but still), I knew we'd be friends for life! LOL

It's probably too soon to come out about Spuffy fanfictions (although I'm sure the Literature teacher in him would be interested)and I don't think I can tell him my interest in...Giles/Ethan relationship, but it was fun to have someone to talk about Buffy.

Over the 4 last years that show led me to new friends, and it still does.

That is so very cool. I can recall a couple of occasions where I've run into people who share that sort of passion, and it's like discovering something rare and precious.

True. I would have never thought I'd find a Buffy fan among my colleagues though...

I'd definitely keep that Giles/Ethan thing under your hat for a while.

I know. I'll try to hint at that pairing later, but I think I'll keep my reading habits for myself! :- )

So many people don't understand the greatness that is Githan, even on the Internet...*sigh*

What a nice way to spend the evening! I agree that you need to lead him gently towards fanfic... LOL!!

Neat! I had several cousins who shared my Buffy addiction. However, one of their daughters was into Bangel. After S3 she refused to watch Buffy.

I was going to say that about anyone into Buffy might understand a Githan slasher. But then while I would understand it, another man need not!! Did he see Brokeback Mountain? LOL!

No I don't think he saw it. I guess he'd understand better a Buffy/Faith slasher since he even noticed homoerotic hints about the Slayers...He's open minded of course but he's a man and he still has arabic roots so something tells me that Githan might be too much.

Even my close friends don't know I read Buffy fanfictions. I can't imagine the look on their faces if they knew that not only I read fanfictions but also mostly erotic fanfictions and sometimes porny fanfictions involving two middle aged British men! Honestly I think they would call "the men in white" if they knew. LOL

I wonder if H. even remembers who Ethan Rayne was...I think I'm gonna dig in there first.

Hey, that's fun. He's a literature teacher? Maybe he'll like this book: Slayer Slang (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0195175999/qid=1141120563/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_2_1/026-4649638-9696420). I've just started reading it yesterday and it's very good. It's primarily about linguistics of course, but entertaining as well. And -- being a non-linguist -- I'm learning a lot from it!

Oh this reminds me I have the book Jane gave me for Christmas "Why Buffy Matters?" !

Yeah it was fun. Sandrine (ARN) was the only one with whom I could share my Buffy addiction here in RL, but I don't see her very often and she has kinda moved on since she's very busy with a new job.
