I'm having a break from Marking Hell to sip my Japanese tea (Flowers of Geisha)...
Yesterday evening the César awards (the French Oscars) have been presented. Of course I hadn't seen the movie that won most of the awards (8 Césars !) De Battre Mon Coeur S'est Arrêté (Best movie, best director, best actor in a supporting role, best female hope aka the most promising actress), but among the films I reviewed on this LJ, Nathalie Baye won the César of best actress in a leading role for Le Petit Lieutenant, which was deserved really, and Le Cauchemard de Darwin (Darwin's Nightmare) won the award of best First Film.

comava will be happy to know that Louis Garrel won the award of the Male Hope !
Oh and before I forgot. The last episode of Battlestar Galactica was simply brilliant! 2x14, 2X15 and 2X16 were average, 2X17 was good, but Downladed did rock! It's one of the best episodes of season 2 and the first-rate writing definitely puts the series on the top of my list ahead any other show that is currently running.
I just love Sharon, Six and Baltar, and Helo!

Date: 2006-03-03 12:25 am (UTC)Speaking of rebuilding Caprica, did you notice how it was only the Centurions doing the manual labour whilst the humanoid Cylons stood around watching? And why did the original Cylons rebel; because they were being used as slaves! It'd be interesting to see if, as time goes on, the Centurions begin to resent being lorded over by people who look a lot like humans...
I also loved how they dealt with CapricaSix and GalacticaSharon. I read one review which was quite interesting in that it examined two possible interpretations of the episode. The first being that C-Six and G-Sharon represent suicide bombers, but unlike the real world, these suicide bombers actually get to look back on the damage they've done... The other interpretation was that they represent soldiers who've gone to the front lines, seen how their own people treat the enemy, and have come home changed because of it. (Shades of Vietnam/Iraq, perhaps...)
The one thing I was hoping for was a definitive name for the Number Six model! Three is D'Anna Biers, Five is Aaron Doral and Eight was Sharon Valerii. But we've only got two possible names to go on for Six; Shelley Godfrey or Gina.
I also wish we could've seen Leoben and Simon wandering around on Caprica... and maybe multiple Ellen Tighs... *smirk*
Season finale tomorrow, I think!

Date: 2006-03-03 03:20 pm (UTC)I think that it's something tied to death, CapSharon, CapSix both were downloaded again, as Sharon told Strabuck on the Galactica, death is a powerful experience. It's an interesting paradox because it's being downloaded that made them feel mortal rather than immortal!
I missed Leoben too. I'm pretty sure that Six did have a name int he mini series, Baltar called her something on Caprica, but I don't rememner what.
I wonder which number is Helo's Sharon...
The finale really? I thought there were 2 eppys to go.
