Temptation

I've just seen the 3 hours mini-series Battlestar Gallactica, and now I'd like to see the series! Damn....I can't download a new show! Of course now that Nip/Tuck is over...Mmmm temptation, temptation!

I remember when I went to see the movie, I was quite young, and of course I used to watch the old series starring Lorne Green, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict. I kinda had a crush on Apollo.

I like the new Adama, Edward James Olmos is still good (did they make some of the Cylons look like humans because of his old role in Blade Runner?) but the new Apollo isn't handsome enough IMO and lacks charisma. Yet I think that turning Starbuck and Boomer into women was a neat idea, and it works. Looks like Kara is actually a mix of  the old Starbuck and Sheba (the woman who was in love with Apollo in the series and fell for John Steed as the Devil in one eppy!). I bet the  belly-to-belly viper maneuver she used to save Apollo means they might become groiny (I speak like Buffy now).

Oh and the gorgeous Cylon-woman had to be Number 6! LOL

But it's Baltar who won me! I already liked the Baltar of the old Galactica, but this one is definitely an intriguing character and the actor does have charisma unlike Apollo.

I really liked how they revive the Frankenstein theme with the Cylons. I didn't recall it was that clear in the old series. Obviously the Cylons think that mankind is dangerous and bad by nature, seeking revenge, not understanding love. Those Cylons are much more interesting than the old ones (even though I loved the rivalry and jealousy between Baltar and that weird Cylon in the old series).

Oh and Boomer would be a sleeper...a Cylon agent waiting to be triggered but who might not know what she is (Number 6 mentioned that), just like Rachel in Blade Runner. I think that her relationship with Boxie is going to be significant if she develops maternal feelings for him (as old Apollo did)...and Number 6 killing the baby at the beginning of this pilot didn't happen by chance.

Damn, I really need to see the series now.

Yay! I'm a massive, massive fan of the new Battlestar Galactica. I've been watching the S1 DVD again on my Xmas break and really enjoying it.

The series is up to halfway through S2 now, so you don't have too far to catch up on!

And I join you in loving Baltar. One of the best characters on TV at the moment.

I hope you get the series! (As I said, S1 is out on DVD now if you wanted to catch up quickly!)

Really great show... throws up a lot of interesting political, social, religious topics...

Funny that you should comment about this show. I heard so many good things about it lately. The critics seem to love it. Season Two will start here shortly so I gifted myself with season 1 to get caught up. I also have the movie you are talking about on tape but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.
I really don't remember much about the original series, only that I shared your Apollo love.
I think Richard Hatch is slated to be a guest at this summer's Toronto Trek. I loved him in Streets of San Fransisco way back when, prior to his Apollo role Michael Douglas had left the show to pursue his movie career and Richard took over as Karl Malden's new partner.

With the boyfriend being an old BSG fan from way back we of course had to give the new version a try. I didn't watch much tv as a kid, so the whole concept was pretty new to me. I have since watched a couple of the old episodes as well as parts of the film(s). I can see why he liked it.

I enjoyed the mini-series, but it didn't make me a huge fan. We watched the first season of BSG and I wasn't too impressed. I know I'm in the minority with that opinion, but it just didn't click with me. There were two or three good episodes, but I felt that some of it was too formulaic for me. Heroes with a traumatic past that they have to overcome first don't excite me much.

Can't tell you anything about the second season, because we gave it a miss (too much tv on our schedule already....).

Oh, and a word to the wise: Don't look too closely at the credits (we 'stilled' the picture), because they contain snippets from the episode which can spoil the viewing pleasure quite a bit.

I don't think I'm going to buy the DVDs (sorry Kashy) because I want to know what the series looks like first...besides I haven't bought any DVDs apart from BTVS seasons (all of them but the first one) and Ats season 5...not even OZ!

Buffy is the only show that I really consider as Art and want to keep on DVDs.

So in other words...let's download away!

PS: 2 last episodes of The Shield s 3 tomorrow but I'm afraid (well accoridng to my tv guide) they don't show season 4...at least not immediately. Bugger!
