Glimpses of screens you can't see

The cats are sleeping on the bed, Tom McRae is singing, I'm drinking tea while marking and just above my desk there's this poster of a famous painting by Hyeronimus Bosch...

Yes life can be more interesting than the Internet...except maybe for the marking! The title of the painting is "The Extraction of the Stone of Madness" btw...and this makes me think of Spike in season 7, the chip being the replacement of the stone. On the painting Bosch chose to paint a flower. The flower is a tulip which, in the Netherlands was a metaphor for being mad...

Above my desk is a framed poem written for me by teenLinnit when she was eight. It's called My Happiness and goes:

" My happiness tastes like strawberries in summer.
It's blue like the sea.
It smells like roses.
It looks like dolphins swimming around and around
and feel warm like the sun."

I've always wanted to find a painting, or commission one, that would turn teen's words into an image.

By the way... Jane has, at last, posted another episode of 'After the Dream' over on Buffy&Spike Diaries. 's goood.

Thanks for the info!

I'm supposed to work...damn papers!

Oh it's funny that you mentioned that chapter of "After the Dream" in your comment, since it's a Drusilla-centric chapter, it fits perfectly in the entry! Did they removed a stone from Dru to cure her folly? Perhaps that stone prevented her soul from coming back...

Good timing Chrissie!

Seriously, there's more to life than this? ;-)

I like this one:

Christ seems to be lost in the mass of ugly faces, which he probably was.
Jeroen Bosch can make ugliness into something intreaguing...

My favourite remains the Hell panel of the Garden of Hearthly Delight:

Hope it works, I've never posted a picture in a comment until now...

Yes, that one's my favourite as well.

I believe he also painted a war between Carnival and Lent, but I couldn't find that one, so I might be mixing up painters...

I can relate! To the cats sleeping on the bed and the tea part. Although my girls are sleeping on the couch, and I was just in the process of boiling some water for tea. :) When I look at them sleeping quietly, I often get such a feeling of happiness and that all is right with the world...then reality rears its ugly head.

I have no nice painting to look at over my desk, only an Oriental motif calendar that's still showing February. Guess I've got some things to do then. :)

Happy Sunday!

Thanks for posting Fraidy!

Yeah everything seems alright when cats are sleeping...and dreaming!

Lovecraft would have agreed for sure.

*Hugs*

Did you get your poster of "The Extraction of the Stone of Madness" when you went to the Prado last year?

Yep. And I bought a beautiful copy of the Hell panel of the Garden of the Earthly Delight too.
