But I went and saw The Avengers...and I didn't like it.

To tell the truth, I was mostly bored during the film – apart from two or three funny scenes with Whedonesque lines–, and I got increasingly annoyed when it became all about big noises and mass destroying. Where is the Joss Whedon who used to scoff at formula, to subvert tropes and twist clichés, who wrote things that had layers and layers of meanings? Where is the man who wrote and directed Serenity?

I've come to the conclusion that the less money he's got the better. Big budget films will ruin him.

I may sound harsh but I actually don't understand why so many people like  The Avengers. My friend P-H who is WAY less demanding than me when it comes to cinema, and enjoys pure entertainment films that I would never go and see (he went to see Transformers and stuff like that!) thought that it was bad so it can't be that I'm too "high brow" for this film.

Maybe that's the superheroes spirit that is lost on me – btw I knew nothing of the comics books characters except for the Hulk and Tony Stark because I actually saw the first Iron Man film and one of the Hulks (the one with Norton) – so all I can see is a superficial scenario, predictable plot and action-packed scenes that have already been done in many other films before. Oh well...

Maybe I should test myself with re-watching the X-Men movies to see if I still enjoy them (because I did at the time...except for the terrible Wolverine film).

PS: In case you wonder, I also saw Cabin In The Woods, which is far from being flawless, and I did enjoy that one...until the film turned into a big mess towards the end. But I won't spoil you about that.
