It's been around for a while on flist. Some questions seem to have been written by some 12 year old, but it's often that way with memes, so let's give it a try.

1. What’s your favorite time of day to read? In the evening. I am a night owl, not an early bird.

2. Do you read during breakfast? (Assuming you eat breakfast.) No, but I don't often eat breakfast.

3. What’s your favorite breakfast food?  I'm your typical French, if I have to eat breakfast I'll have bread and jam or croissant and other viennoiseries.

4. How many hours a day would you say you read? I have no idea but a lot. When I am not teaching, that is talking, I either read or write.

5. Do you read more or less now than you did, say, 10 years ago? I read less for my pleasure and more for my studies, so basically less crime novels (or SF, or books by Richard Powers!) and more historical essays.

6. Do you consider yourself a speed reader?
Not Speedy Gonzales-like but I'm rather quick, I guess.

7. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Am I doing the wrong meme?

8. Do you carry a book with you everywhere you go?
Yes. These days, I even carry two books in my purse.

9. What KIND of book?
In my purse? I have a mystery novel and an Inquisitors' manual.

10. How old were you when you got your first library card?
I don't know. I borrowed my big sister's books when I was very young so I didn't need to relie on library.

11. What’s the oldest book you have in your collection?  Not sure I understand the question. I have facsimile manuscripts but they don't count. I would love to own a true incunabulum but obviously it's a dream. I did not inherit books from any forebear, and most of my books are books I bought myself so there aren't very old (I am not wealthy enough to buy old editions). If the question is about the content of the books, the oldest must be Homer's The Illiad and The Odyssey.

12. Do you read in bed?  All the time.

13. Do you write in your books? No.

14. If you had one piece of advice to a new reader, what would it be?  Enjoy your books but don't only read the easy stuff, be curious, daring and brave, go outside of your comfort zone. Reading is an adventure and it's worth the effort.

15. If someone asked you for a book recommendation, what is the FIRST book you’d think to recommend (without extra thought)?
Either the book they make me think of or the opposite.
