Is there anyone watching Justified who isn't in love (if only a little) with Raylan Givens?

I mean, it's hard to be cooler or prettier. Timothy Olyphant is both handsome and talented, and he was good on Deadwood, but it seems that he was born to play Raylan, and I bet it's the role that everybody will remember...while fanning themselves. :- )

In that opening scene, he looked so gorgeous while listening to the music in the bar. I think I'm seriously developing a sub-crush on his neck...

Even the Lexington Police detective was fangirling Raylan like crazy, just fawning when he heard about the whole bullet-dropping and Raylan's cool line to Duffy about how the next bullet might be coming a little faster!

“Deputy, that might be the coolest thing I’ve ever laid ears on.”

And then Raylan told us from which tv show he had borrowed the line! Super meta! And how cool was it when Raylan was told to hand back his service weapon so he removed it, took off the cartridge case and sorta flipped a bullet out of the gun's chamber in a process?!

Damn it, even Duffy, who suddenly maned up after having been Quarles' bitch since the beginning of the season, had  a chest-to-chest moment with our favourite deputy marshal and seemingly came out and talked about riding Raylan like a pony (unless I misheard?)!!!!

My heart skipped a beat during that scene. And Raylan seemed to enjoy it in a devilish way.

I can't help but loving it when the show goes meta on us using its characters to express the viewers'...views or have the writers break the fourth wall.

I liked the idea of framing Raylan, as a murderer AND a dirty cop, even if Quarles didn't think this through enough. Quarles is really too impulsive, mostly improvising and sloppy, not good at doing his homework or backing himself up, not careful enough (as the scene with the cop being about to find out the torture room proved so ).
I liked the double frame stuff and the investigations that follow and kinda clashed with one another, because it fits in the general storyline of Raylan crossing lines and having to be accountable for all the unorthodox things he does when marshalling (and Vasquez had  a great line about how Raylan could recreate his file just by writing down all the shit he knew he shouldn't have done!) – hell, the series started with an official investigation after Raylan shot that thug in Miami!– but also because it seems to be a sort of meta-joke again. Since season 1 Timothy Olyphant has been called the new Clint Eastwood in town, so it makes sense that some people would mistake his character for Dirty Raylan!

Also, the FBI being tipped off about Dirty Raylan thanks to Sammy's wired phone and therefore not being allowed to dilvulge the source of the information was great. I wonder whether it was a joke-like tribute to The Wire.

And of course, I liked the parallel wih Boyd being framed too.

And Art saying he wouldn't make it to retirement for he risked a stroke because of Raylan. It was such a fatherly thing to say! And of course Ryalan loved it.

"Watching the Detectives" wasn't the best Justified episode ever but it was a fun episode to watch...the moves and the counter-moves. It was nice to have the old stuff from previous seasons or previous episodes being called back, or come back to bite Raylan's ass (he really can't escape the past!). And all characters rocked. Tim was awesome and Art's  exchanges with the FBI agent were priceless (and he managed to ask the right question that would have the whole investigation about dirty Raylan go down to the toilet!).
Even Winona redeemed herself by helping out and saving Raylan's ass for once (she owed him anyway since the infamous evidence-money episode). I know...I'm kinda obsessed with Raylan's ass, I should find another expression, but I guess I have a one track mind tonight....

I liked the standalone quality the episode had too. Even though it served to move things forward, with Quarles looking on the verge of breaking down, Limehouse having his own agenda, and with Boyd being framed for the car bombing and therefore arrested by sheriff Napier, the main plot that was about Raylan's issues was wrapped up by the end of the episode.
I suppose that agent "Yankton cocksucker!" (sorry Deadwood joke) hasn't really given up but Raylan came through the two investigations, which pleased me. I wouldn't have liked the whole thing to be dragged for a few episodes.  Gary's death and Winona finding out about Gary's previous plans to kill her was also a way to show that the R/W relationship is damaged beyond repair, no matter the love they have for each other. The show can move on from that storyline now, and focus on the western, meaning the showdown between Raylan and Quarles, with Boyd and Limehouse as their possible respective back ups.

Quarles will obviously bite the dust by the end of season 3, but the writers might keep Limehouse and Wynn Duffy on board for a while, provided that they leave the sinking ship before it's too late.
Duffy because the actor is great (and was wonderful in Breaking Bad too, as Jesse adviser in the rehab center) he's fun, he does watch women's tennis on tv, and because after his scene with Raylan (I loved Raylan telling him "That's the Wynn Duffy I know!"), they just have to keep him alive.
Limehouse because there's probably more to know about him. BTW it's funny to see that someone as well informed as Limehouse chose to come out of the shadows and apparently side with Quarles, arguing that he wanted to back the winning team, precisely when Quarles' position was weakening...

Unless it's a ploy and Limehouse somehow knew about Quarles' issues and is actually in Boyd team?

Anyway I bet that in season 4 we'll have king Boyd as Raylan's main nemesis...and things will be much more difficult for Raylan because Boyd is the person in the world who knows him best.

And that's all I have for now, folks!
