I still have reservations about Quarles aka Carpetbagger, but I really really enjoyed "The Devil you Know". It was pure Justified :

- a great Boyd/Raylan scene in which you realise those two just love hearing their own voice and one another's voice, and recalling stuff from the past (the exposition about Arlo and Limehouse wasn't forced on us, it sounded part of the "dance" between Boyd and Raylan). They do understand each other better than anyone else, and it's a pleasure when they are reunited on screen. Goggins and Olyphant have great chemistry and the writing is spot-on.

- a few shots of Olyphantastic looking super cool and handsome and charming (btw his last smile to Boyd must have fueled tons of slash fanfictions...and Boyd couldn't resist the smile so he gave up the corrupt guard!!!!!). I think that Timothy Olyphant is at his most attractiveness right now. And the way he plays with his hat is just hot.

- Raylan Givens getting the job done again while keeping his gun holstered -- the tablecloth thing in the opening episode was great but I must confess that I also loved his way of dealing with the prison guard with his car, running him over twice while we expected a western-style showdown!--...I wonder what creative way Raylan will find next to avoid gun fight (apparently the network asked for alternative violence from our cowboy ).

- more Johnny Crowder on screen (I can't help it, I find him super sexy! Rowrrrr). I didn't buy for a minute that Johnny would turn on Boyd. But Devil has never been the smartest boy around...and obviously didn't get the family dynamics. BTW one of the theme of the episode (and of the series in general) is loyalty and the bonds that tie people together, either blood ties or other bonds (in Boyd and Raylan case that would be "mine bonds"). Apparently it's also about crossing lines, but Johnny didn't cross that line (even though he betrayed Bo Crowder once when he plotted with Boyd).

- truly dark stuff that kinda recalled Mags' killing Loretta's father last season. Oh Devil's last whimper when Boyd eased the pain...If we needed any reminder that Boyd is one of the bad guys. That said, Raylan's behaviour with the prison guard wasn't totally "white hat" either.

- good lines (from Raylan most of the time, especially his conversations with Boyd and with Loretta,  but Boyd and his feeling "disturbance in the Force" made me smile too) and gold comedy moments with incompetent criminals whose plans cannot not fail. It was very Coen-like. And of course there's the magnificent dumbass, Dewey Crowe!

That actor is a gem. He couldn't look dumber. And at the same time he does have the famous "puppy quality" that Jesse Pinkman embodies on Breaking Bad (except that Jesse is way smarter than Dewey Crowe) and it makes him weirdly endearing so you can't help hoping that he will make it. I want Raylan to save Dewey Crowe next week!

The viewers are a bit like Boyd and Raylan (and probably the writers) when it comes to Dewey Crowe, we all have a soft spot for him. Even Dickie, who is mostly about weaseling his way into survival, has probably been touched by Dewey Crowe.

I adore Raylan Givens, and his interactions with Boyd, but I think I could still watch Justified sans Boyd, if only for Dewey Crowe! Please don't let him die, the show wouldn't be the same without him.

BTW tv shows are ruining the movie buff in me, the most exciting moment I had when watching Eastwood's J. Edgar at the cinema  yesterday was when I realised that Dewey Crowe was the man who got arrested for kidnapping baby Lindbergh ! And earlier I already happily jumped on my seat when David Lowe from The Good Wife showed up to help Charles Lindbergh!

Of course my cinema buddies don't understand for they are not tv addicts.
