Every time I'm about to give up on Game of Thrones, they throw in  a good episode!

But an episode that mostly revolves around Tyrion has to be good, right?

And yes there were those final minutes and Ned being beheaded, it was shocking in a way, since Sean Bean was supposed, according to advertising, to be the star of the series, and tv networks aren't known for taking risks, besides Cersei obviously didn't want that (and she doesn't even know about Jaimie being in Robb's hands!), and yet it isn't that surprising for Ned have looked doomed and down for a while so I figured that his journey had come to an end (after all he did lose, so he couldn't survive), and above all, because I have never considered Ned Stark to be the hero of the tale, or even the main character.

From day one, it seemed to me that it was Jon Snow who was to be the hero of the tale. The first episode put him in that position, not Ned. Problem is that Jon hasn't been very charismatic until now and had little to do since the first episode (apart from saving the big boss from the Walking Dead...but most of the credit goes to the wolf anyway). But winter is coming, isn't it?

Speaking of the Stark kids, I have to say that Robb is definitely becoming something of an alpha male on the show too! He's getting the right attitude at least. I like how he responded to Jaime! BTW is it me or Theon totally fancies him?

Once again, the Dothraki stuff was the weak link in the episode, although Jorah's fight was okay (he had to be after we learn that the Lord The Wall was his father!). Couldn't they borrow from Conan more? I mean, the witch, the price to pay to the spirits of the dead or whatever? All that the dying Khal was missing was the tattoes and blonde Valeria fighting the shadows! Where is Tulsa Doom?!

That said, it's interesting to point out that without her Sun-and-Stars of a husband, Daenerys is basically nothing and the power she had managed to get for herself was only through her man.
Jorah must be torn, given that he is obviously in love with her.

Can we get rid of Drogo now?

Of course I loved the Tryrion's scenes, you can count on Dinklage to deliver, and Bronn was fun (loved his reaction when the whore started mounting Tyrion!), and that new concubine sounds interesting. Her name is Shae, isn't it? I don't know who the actress is but she reminded me of Sibel Kelkili from the fabulous  Head-On*.

As for the new character whose name eludes me, the old guy with the big family and children piling up around him for he keeps knocking up young brides, it was a neat scene. The actor's face looked familiar.

I have to say that is the first episode in which I haven't disliked Catelyn.

*ETA: I just checked and turned out that it is Sibel Kelkili...although I think she had a nose job since Head-On.

Don Draper me vient à l'esprit...

Grrr :-)
