I've just seen "The Curse of the Black Spot" which was entertaining, and the episode does have a few neat things and funny moments but definitely not the best Doctor Who of the Moffat era.
It was fun, with a few clever things here and there, mostly the siren being a doctor, the mirrors stuff that has to be big on foreshadowing things and, above all, I love the "Rory! Toby! The Tardis!" :- )
Oh and "I'm confused" leading the doctor to mention a club and that they should have t-shirts!LOL
Eventually, after paying tribute to pirate films (and Amy reminded me of another redhead, Gena Davis!)and mythology, the show rewrote the legend of the Ghost Ship.
Eyepatch Lady must be a nurse or an OB GYN doctor in some alternate reality in which Amy is giving birth.
But overall that filler or standalone was not a great episode, and the scene after disconnecting Rory was terrible (and before that why were The Doctor, Amy and Avery the only ones the Virtual Doctor didn't put in sick bay after bringing them into the spaceship?). The cryfest working miracle was such a bad cliché. Also didn't Rory teach her to pinch the nose before blowing air inside of the mouth when performing CPR?
It really shows when Moffat doesn't write episodes.
