I'm back from the Opera Bastille where I saw "La Bohème". Of course I had a thought for Giles in "Passion" by the end of Act 1.

I liked it, the décor was well done and I especially enjoyed the streets scenes and the café scene. But I kinda had the same feelings as 12 years ago when I saw it at the Opera of Nice. The story is just too soppy and doesn't move me at all. Rodolpho/Mimi pair annoys me and I still prefer Marcello/Museta. Museta was quite good btw, the singer sang well and was very in character. Rodolpho was a bit weak voice wise. I don't know what's going on with ténors these days but it's hard to find a good one. As for Mimi...well, not a bad singer but she so didn't look like she should be. It's like the Willow in the unaired pilote of Buffy!

You expect Mimi to be fragile and skinny and that soprano was big, chubby...lively. It was hard to believe that the character was very ill. Anyway I've always had a problem with Mimi. She's a twit and honestly how could someone who is supposed to have breathing issues and suffocate can SING like that while dying?

But well Puccini's music had its moments...

This month of October started very musically, didn't it?
