I'm supposed to mark papers and I'm going to...but I need to write down my thoughts on the last episode of Lost before entering Marking hell again.

I loved the episode! It's typically the kind of stuff that drew me to the series and kept me tuning in. The shoe thing was spot on. What a great metaphor for the episode

Being in Christian's shoes was perfect for Locke. His death makes sense at last. I expect his ghost to show up on the island now and again. I guess he will inhabit the cabin and speak for Jacob from now on.

The metaphor also works for the other characters on the plane since they all play a role by proxy in regard to what happened the first time on the Oceanic plane. They have to make it up for the missing passengers. Hugo brought  a guitar in stead of Charlie. Sayid was in Kate's shoes, handcuffed and watched by a cop (am I the only one thinking that she looks a lot like Ana-Lucia?). Ben almost missed the flight, arriving late, just as Hugo did once upon a time. Locke of course was in the coffin in lieu of Christian Shepard. It was like the game of the musical chairs. I haven't figured out Sun's, Kate's, and Jack's role yet but the metaphor must apply to them too. On the other hand Kate had been playing Claire's role for  a while, being Aaron's mother by proxy so maybe it's just that. Sun and Jack I don't know, unless we consider Sun as playing the role of the loving wife (Rose?) and Jack the role of the miracle-believer (John?).

And there's that guy who said "my condoleances" to Jack in the airport.

I'm very worried about Penny given what Ben told Jack as he left the church and given his phone call from the marina. Since he promised Widmore he would kill his daughter as a payback for Alex' death he must have tried to do so. I hope that his being all beaten up means that Desmond managed to protect his beloved family.

But Ben was reading Ulysses on the plane which must be a hint at Desmond again. And Eloïse isnisted that the island wasn't done with Desmond yet.

I suppose that 316 must have a certain meaning, as numbers always have on the show.

I also enjoyed the fact that Jack's grandfather was watching a show of magic, featuring, of course, a white rabbit. I like my Alice in Wonderfland clues on Lost.

And there was the Biblical stuff via Caravaggio's painting (and wasn't Jeremy Bentham supposed to be a painter?). I'm surprised they didn't use the Book of Revelation, since the episode was all about an apocalypse that is a "coming back", a return that would save the others...but perhaps they did. After all the author of the book is supposed to be a certain John.

The ending also scene was a nice echo of the previous episode, Jin being this time in Sawyer's shoes.

I've yet to see an episode. Maybe I can get a tape now, has there been 6 hours yet?

Nice analysis.

I was a bit surprised to see Jin in the bus in initiative clothing. I hope I can keep the time lines straight in my head and I hope the same for the writers.

(I loved the guitar case and Hurley also stood in for Walt, reading a comic book while waiting at the airport.)

Oh I had forgotten about Walt reading a comic book!

But I guess there are other things we forgot that they hinted at. Unfortunately I don't keep the episodes so I can't rewatch the Oceanic scene.

Oh, definitely! (I always rely on you and some others to tell me about the hints, the connections and the characters and storylines alluded to that I can't remember. Walt and the comic book was one of the rare exceptions that I remembered something.)
