Ok I' ve seen 8 episodes so far. It's entertaining but I'm sorry [livejournal.com profile] candlelightfrot , it doesn't reach the level of Buffy or even the level of OZ, Farscape, Nip/Tuck. I even prefer Carnival. Maybe it's the French version, but I don't think so.

I like Charlie really and Michael too (the actor was the narrator in OZ)...but Jack and Kate still annoyed me a lot. Kate mostly. Oh and I mistrust Hurley.

Looks like Sawyer goes commando! Yay!!!!!!!

I still think that they all have something in common: frustration, regret, LOST opportunities, bad choices, a past that doesn't wear off. Like Sawyer who wants to be punished for the path he has taken...the Sawyer path.

And at the same time the dream of what could have occured, of what they could have become...

ETA: I've just seen the 9th episode written by Fury

David Fury definitely writes the best episodes! The golf scene was good. Sayid's background seems to confirm my theory. I wonder about that Danielle woman...Does she speak with a French accent in the original version? If they were going to Tahiti she could be French. Watching Lost in French is really frustrating. The last scene with the voices in the jungle reminded me of the "BlairWitch Project". But the scene was short which was of the good. Fury knows to be subtle.

Did I say that Swayer was gorgeous?

Just gotta say I disagree with you. I much prefer Lost over Oz, Farscape AND Nip/Tuck.

As far as first seasons go, I'd even say it's better than Buffy. If it can maintain the quality or even build on, it could overtake Buffy in my estimation. :-)

Stick with it though, won't you? There's great stuff right the way through the season.

So we have to disagree then.

Yes I will stick with it, and yes I like it but after 8 episodes I think there's a lot of déjà-vu and conventional stuff (the characters and their realtionships, the flash-backs structure ) on Lost, while Buffy and OZ were unique and refreshing in regard to the writing (its structure)and the characters.

I think part of the attraction for me is that I speculate a lot about TV, and as Lost progressed there were more and more pieces of the puzzle to try and slot together. I prefer arc-based shows in that way.

There's a lot more mystery involved with Lost than the other shows you mentioned, in my view, and I think that's why I enjoy it so much.

I'm not saying the others are bad, but.... I like Lost. :-)

Glad you're sticking with it. I just took a look back through my episodes (I've got the whole first season downloaded) and you've still got a lot of good stuff to see!

Oz and Carnivale are definitely more daring shows, but I find it difficult to compare HBO to American network tv. There is a different level of intensity (and no, that's not just the swearing and nudity).
Haven't really watched Farscape and Nip/Tuck - only the occasional bit of an episode in German, so can't comment on that.
I find Kate and Jack annoying as well - but they're fairly easy to ignore and even when they're the focus of the episode I can live with it. While I doubt that they're meant to be annoying to all viewers, they're definitely people I would find annoying in RL - regardless of what others think of them.

I don't think they are meant to be annoying to viewers either, and that's the problem!

Well BTVS wasn't on HBO and it was WAY more daring...Farscape didn't reach the BTVS level but it was very creative except for the mini-series they did last year after the show was cancelled. Farscape lost its soul then.

A French who saw Lost in its original language told me that the French woman couldn't speak French which was very annoying. I guess it was like Giles speaking French in Restless, except that in Restless it suited the weirdness of the dream theme.
