I love my Buffy DVDs
People who come to visit me and see that huge pile (I've got seasons 2,3,4,5,6,7 and Ats season 5, plus a DVD box containing the 4 first episodes of Buffy season 1) must think I'm weird. I'm pretty sure they don't expect to find such stuff at my home...The sky is grey and I should be running errands but I'm procrastinating which could lead to some Buffy watchage. Unlike some fans I do like season 6, and I haven't watched it for a long time...
BTW if I had to do a placing:
1. Season 4
2. Season 5 and season 6 ex aequo
3. Season 2
4. Season 7 and season 3 ex aequo
5. Season 1 (not only because of the lack of Spike!)
What would be yours?

This is a hard question, Chani. I guess it would go something like this, but I reserve the right to change my mind later ;-)
1) season 5
2) season 6
3) season 4
4) season 2
5) season 7
6) season 1
7) season 3

1. Season 7 – I’m a freak but this really is my favourite. I adore the big themes, feminism, leadership, the whole enemy within existential crisis thing. And I love the subtle way the characters and their relationships build from episode to episode.
2. Season 6 and Season 3. Either of these could be joint first. Six, I love the musical and the whole Buffy/Spike story, the trio and even most of the Magic!Crack but it loses out for inconsistency – there are a few episodes that just don’t work for me. Three is very consistent but it’s still a little too high school.
3. Season 4. Possibly the most light-hearted season and it has Restless. Nuff said.
4. Season 2. The Angelus arc and the development of the Buffy/Giles relationship are wonderful. And Spike’n Dru. But there’s a lot of mediocre stuff early on and the whole ‘boyfriend turns bad’ subtext just doesn’t mean a lot to me personally.
5. Season 5. There’s a lot I love about this season but the big epic story just doesn’t mesh at all well with the domestic aspects. I think epic worked better on Angel.
6. Season 1. It was a good start to the series and ‘The Pack’ is great but it got so much better later.

In season 3 I love The Mayor, and the Faith/The Mayor arc but I couldn't stand Bangel except in "Beauty and The Beasts".
S 5 I understand what you mean about the epic story, and first I really didn't like the Glory arc, but re-watching it with an analytical perspective I was reconciled with it. And there's my favourite episode, "Fool For Love"...And the Buffybot. Season 5 might be the best Spike season. And "The Body" is really something.
I totally agree with you about s1.

season 1 - the first 12 episodes were definitely the best because they were definitely the most campy/comic book. Willow was the geekiest, Xander the dorkiest, Cordy the bitchiest, Giles was the Gilesiest, and Angel the most enigmatic. Episode 12 was the best episode, bar none. There was Buffy's tantrum and ultimate decision to accept a fate and BE the slayer. Then came the scenes in The Master's lair, Buffy's death, Xander and Angel working together, Buffy's re-birth and triumph, it was all so perfectly comic book.
Then....
2(tie) - S2 -- It ended twice, the first time with so much camp and comic book flare - "Surprise/Innocence", and any season with a ep with the emotion of "Passion" followed by and ending like S2's deserves to be at the top.
2(tie) - S5 -- Emotion, the sense of loss ("The Body," Riley) and imbending loss (Dawn, The Key, and everything) throughout made the triumph and ultimate loss all the more deeply felt.
4(tie) - S3 -- It still had the campy factor but not as much nor was there as much tension.
4(tie) - s4 -- It was all about friendship and loyalty and while some don't think of it as an ending episode, "Restless" was indeed about how their friendships molded the persons that they would become. And "Restless" was about as perfect a psychological cliffhanger as there has ever been.
5 - S6 -- The camp came through at times in specific points like "Once More With Feeling" which was just pure genius. It also fit my mood the year it aired....
7 - S7 -- Well, 7 & 7 sorta fit, even the '&' sign is on the '7' key! But it ended the series perfectly, because Buffy deserved to be free of Sunnydale and free of Spike. And Spike deserved to be free.

S1 was a good start but the writers were in warm-up mode and it gets much better later...

Gagging is, however, always in order!
