So I've just seen the pilote and the second episode of Lost.

Here's a few thoughts.

Well I wasn't impressed by Part 1 of the first episode, I was even kinda disappointed. The Jack/Kate thing annoyed me (Did they have to look like models?) and there was that feeling of déjà-vu...I expected something more refreshing, more creative. I guess that Buffy ruined me for other shows. LOL

Well not quite, because I was hooked on Tip/Tuck. But let's back to Lost.

Of course there was the intriguing Asian couple, the bald man and also.....the dog watching them( a Benji-like shot but I loved it!)!

Part 2 was better. Kate's character became interesting. The old man/kid backgammon scene made me want to know more...the message thingy that had been running for 16 years was a good twist (I'm pretty sure this has already been used on a movie before though) and that Sawyer guy has charisma!

[livejournal.com profile] pfeifferpack , if you read this, I am not surprise that he's one of your fav! *wink*  He definitely has a bad boypotential and sex-appeal (and pretty lips). I like Sayid too, even though it's always weird when they cast an Indian actor to play an Arab (I know that Ben Kingsley did it before).

Is it me or Shannon kinda looks like Anya?

Episode 2...Kate isn't ambiguous enough IMO. You can see that deep down she's a good person. I hope I'm wrong but I bet she's going to shag Sawyer but fall in love with Jack...*rolls eyes*

Hey the dog is back thanks to the bald man!!!

I don't know to which extent I can trust the French dubbing but Jack said that they died 3 days ago and should have a fresh start...Mmmm...Was that a clue?

I've been watching Lost, too, and I agree with you that Kate is one of the weaker characters - of course I now know a lot more about her than you do, but I still haven't figured her out and I'm not sure I'm terribly interested in her.
There are enough intriguing characters though and enough twists and mysteries to keep up my interest.
And you're right that quite a few of the gimmicks and McGuffins have been used before (especially in films), but after all this is a tv series and IMO they have succeeded in using all these influences to create something worth watching.
