That film mostly sucked !

The actress wasn't bad but she looked too old, too square shaped. SMG being smaller and having a kinda elf-like face added something to the twisted theme of the little blonde killing big monsters.

The movie had its moments that were Joss-like (when Buffy is in the Principle's office and kills the fly while he's recalling his drug experiences, or the Buffy/Merrick scenes, or Lothos going to eat a pussy , the interviews of the ending credits LOL) but overall it wasn't the Jossverse at all.

The vampires were so lame. Benny, the one that formerly was Pike's drunking buddy even had a reflection in the window! And Lothos' minion grrrr...Yet Rutger Hauer used to be a good actor with great charisma whe he played in Blade Runner or Ladyhawk or Flesh and Blood...*sigh*

Looks like Joss was inspired by Beeny and Pike when he wrote Jesse and Xander, and mostly by Pike for Angel 's character(the white dress and leather jacket thing he used again in Prophecy Girl, Angel coming to the Prom) and later for Spike (a drunkar too)...I have that feeling that Pike was his first try, Angel his second and that he fianlly got it right with Spike. And a second icon was born!

I need sweet William now.

Joss didn't like it either.

He says he did write it to be campy but not what it was turned into - a teenage comedic slasher movie. His vision for the movie was the same as the vision he got across in the TV show. He just didn't have the pull in Hollywood at the time to get it done the way he wanted when the movie was made.
