That's just smut in the good ole USA.... *sigh* Though I think his "Woman with a Parrot" and a couple of other nudes are in the MET. Even so, if that were a man, would the painting have the consideration which Courbet's women have so received?
I did visit the Minneapolis Institute of Art one day (ages ago) when I was up north. I think I saw Courbet's view of Ornans (his hometown?) and some other painting with deer in it - landscapes, no nudes! Though I do like his Landscape in the Jura, which I came across when I was researching my ancestors in that Department.
