I saw Star Wars episode III today. Ok I expected to dislike it and actually

I didn't!

The opening scene was smashing and there were some very good moments that were worth the Myth which is far better than episodes I and II.

Things that were bad:

- the title...Come on "Revenge of the Sith" is pretty lame. They should have called it "Pax Sitha"

- most of the Anakin/Padmé loving scenes, not convincing at all...Bring back Han Solo and Leia!

- Anakin's yellowish evil eyes

-Darth Vader's final "Nooooooooooooooooooo"

- Anakin killing the Jedi novices right after he sided with Palpatine/Sidious (is it a contraction of Sid and Vicious btw?) in order to save Padmé, because it's way too soon in his journey. I know it's important for Obi-Wan if we want him to fight his apprentice but it doesn't make sense when it happens. Darth Vader must be completed to be able to spill the blood of the innocents that way.

- Padmé not knowing she's carrying twins. Don't they have ultrasounds in that bloody Republic?

- the final scenes with the babies arriving in their new families and the twilight...That was so not necessary! An ending shot showing the construction of the black star (or was it the Star of Death ?) should have been enough. *sigh*

Things I loved:

- R2 "who" is still the true HERO of the saga IMO

- R2 and 3-PO (briefly)reunited as a Laurel and Hardy couple

- Yoda meeting Chewbaka

- Yoda being Yoda and feeling that Darth Vader might turn away from his dark master some day...

- the final fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin

- Anakin playing Othello and being told later that Padmé/Desdemona died from his own hand!

- Anakin losing in front of Obi-Wan and then being literally consumed by the dark side.

- the last step in the making of Darth Vader with the mask put on his face and the sound...A Star is born!

- 3-PO having his memory erased but not R2!

In spite of these flaws the episode was inspired.

I like the fact that it isn't an event that made Anakin turn to the dark side. At the end of the day it's the result of several parameters: his own human flaws and weaknesses, the Council's behaviour and Palpatine's manipulation. The Jedis and The Sith made Darth Vader, and Anakin (being pretty naive and impetuous) was a good candidate to become that creature. All the ingredients for his upcoming betrayal (in The Return of the Jedi) were there as well. And the Prophecy was not misread actually since Darth Vader will kill the Emperor later.

As for the little inconsistency with the first trilogy, it's what I had guessed. Padmé died when giving life which doesn't fit in Leia's line in "The Return of the Jedi" when she tells Luke about how beautiful her "true" mother was and that she died when she was still very young...That line has always bothered me btw, because I didn't understand how Darth Vader could not know about his daughter if she had been with her mother during her childhood. So actually they correct that mistake in Episode III.

So overall it was better than I expected.

But "Empire Strikes Back" is the best opus of the series!

Hahaha, that NOOOOOO was so bad it's hilarious. I love it. I know it's suppost to be dramatic, but for me it was the funniest part in the movie.

And I agree, the Anakin/Padmé scenes were not convincing. As was his killing of the younglings - half an hour earlier he would never have dreamed of doing so and yet, as soon as Anakin pledges alliance to Palpatine, he's done 180°. It's not logical, it all happened in such a short matter of time.

R2 was great. Loved him!

It's Death Star...

And I'm waiting for the dvd to view it... Never cared much for the prequels.

But wasn't Death Star in episode VI?

I meant the one in the first opus...used to destroy Leia's planet.

The first 2 prequels sucked but that one is okay.

Well put. That's how I saw it too. I had a very strong feeling that the Jedi had failed him.
