Not sure I'm such an exception. I think I voiced what many of colleagues think still.

I'm not going to play the advocate of all the teachers, as in any job, some are bad or too delicate and should have never become teachers, but most of those whom I know are rather conscientious people who like being in a classroom, most of the time.
I've been teaching for almost 12 years (oh my!)but the job hasn't tired me out yet, but I'm very aware of how it is tiring and teaching is getting more and more difficult with all the problems we have to face (that didn't really exist when I was in Highschool, or only rarely...parents didn't sue at the time, they used to scold their children) and a society that often works against us (marketing away, feeding kids with the ideas that everything must come to them quickly, that fast money and success is what is worth etc)...honestly I don't think it's gonna improve.
We have more and more students (I have 35 pupils at least in my classes), the nervous tension is huge, and we are supposed to adapt instead of standing for a few principles. When we fight for them, we're called rigid, conservative and too old-fashioned for this world based on liberalism and flexibility. We make no money compared to people who are often less educated, and we are perceived as lazy bums who are always on holidays (or on strike!)and don't work much because people only see the numbers of teaching hours, forgetting all the work that is involved before and after...

Yes I still believe in what I do, I still experience moments of fun and moments of grace when I'm on stage teaching but I might not post the same kind of entry in a few years, you know.
