Hmm. It's interesting. When I heard about the anniversary and the reconstruction, it struck me that my perception of Napoleon is so very limited and thus different. I haven't studied Napoleon in detail, so my knowledge is rather sketchy, but what he did had a huge impact on German history. And I guess I'm mostly seeing him from that perspective - as someone who brought the Code Napoléon to the Rhineland and the other Western provinces thus opening up people to the idea of a more secular society with civil marriages etc. He even forced Prussia to adopt reforms. And of course his actions brought back the idea of national unity, of patriotism and nationalism.
