The Good Wife was really good this week (I just adore Diane!).
I loved the silly-surrealistic and yet funny subplot with Eli, Alan Cumming being amazing (how did he manage to keep a straight face when saying "you're a grain"?), as always. The whole thing was just...priceless (especially the pictures and Eli's golden lines). And Jackie's face on Alicia's computer was pretty funny too.
The plot of the week was okay. I like it when "our guys" lose a case.
And I like the lawyer and the judge that we saw in a previous episode. Also the military case allowed the episode's title...a clever way to suggest a famous acronym: WTF !
I didn't care much about the Kalinda/Dana flirting and the (predictable) twist of seeing Dana in bed with Cary, but I like Cary character and his reaction to Wendy going after Will was...promising.
Of course all the Diane scenes were terrific, either with Will or Eli, but Eli has chemistry with everyone (it's just so easy to 'ship Eli/Alicia, or Eli/Kalinda or Eli/the character played by America Ferrara or Eli/Diane) and Diane/Will scenes have always been my favourite thing on the show. Diane is easily my favourite character but her reaction to the Will/Alicia affair is a bit excessive. Her sleeping with Malboro Man last season wasn't very professional either after all...
Poor Will. I think that Josh Charles did a great job in the silent scene when he sat down near Alicia after his conversation with Diane. I don't think that Wendy the bitch will drop it, no matter what he does regarding Alicia. And frankly, given what we know about Wendy's ways to get what she wants I don't buy any righteous crusade against corruption from her. She's up to something. The question is: is Peter aware of it or not?
I do believe that Will really loves Alicia but I don't think he would choose his love affair with her over his "marriage" (the partnership with Diane that is the core of the firm). I even came to the conclusion that Will is also a "good wife" when it comes to Lockart/Gardner (same could be said about Diane btw).
So The Good Wife was fine but I kept banging my head on the keyboard while watching The Walking Dead. Every time I think these people couldn't be more stupid and the writing couldn't be poorer, I realise I'm wrong! And it doesn't help that this was a Daryl-light episode.
The beginning of the episode wasn't so bad. Andrea apologising and Daryl's reaction was an okay scene. The chicken thing was creepy but nicely done, especially the detail about breaking the chicken legs so the slow walkers would easily catch the preys, that was a subtle touch on a show that is nothing but subtle. And I was dreading an entire episode of Glenn keeping the secret, so I was pleased when he easily spilled the beans to Dale who is "old and knows things".
But then, the dull stuff began, and the lazy writing (Carl's super fast recovery!)ensued with loads of predictable and telegraphed things (Lori's list of errands being to try having an abortion; the zombie attack in the pharmacy; and above all, Lori rushing to throw up after swalloing the morning pills!). Also I have to say it: Lori is insufferable but she made a point: being pregnant and having a crying baby in their situation is like the worst idea ever!
I'd like the give the show the benefit of the doubt and say that the choice she apparently made --and Rick's obviously being in a "let's keep the baby" team along with Dale and possibly Glenn-- is to be taken as an echo, a counterpoint to Heschel's choice not to eleminate the walkers, but I'm afraid that it is just another tv cliché. And I very doubt that this tv show will risk to adress the abortion issue by making a parallel between a man who wants to believe that a zombie is still a person, and and therefore alive and someone who must not be killed, and someone who believes that life begins with conception (as showed by Maggie's reaction when she called the morning-after pill an abortion pill ) and that the foetus is already a person so any abortion is just like murder. BTW how ignorant is Lori if she believed that morning-after pills would work?
Heschel is obviously against euthanasia which is in character if you think that he's a Bible belt old-fashioned guy but weird if you think that he is a vet.
Shane is more and more the villain of the play (the walkers are a danger but not villains), losing the little ambiguity he still had, and Dale suggesting that his version of Otis' death was wrong solely based on the fact that he saw him point a gun at Rick made no sense at all. Lazy writing again.
If I were Andrea I would have jumped Daryl's bones instead of grabbing Shane's crotch. What? It had to be said!
But I bet that Sophia's mother will be more likely the one hooking up with Daryl some day.
Oh and yes there are still looking for Sophia which is just so ridiculous that it sounds like a running joke now.
Unless it's simply metaphorical and those silly people just need to find the wisdom (sophia in Greek) they lack?
Nahhhhhh.....
ETA: Rick's reaction was mature but when he said "I know" I thought they were AT LAST going to adress the issue of what was whispered in his ear by the CDC guy at the end of season 1, when almost all the viewers thought that the big reaveal was that Lori was pregnant, but no. Did they drop that mystery?
