We have a subcategory in French for a work set in the future: "anticipation" (either film d'anticipation or roman d'anticipation).

And this is where I point out that not all the anticipation works are necessarily sci-fi. An author can imagine a further future in wich there isn't any fictional science (usually it's even a technology-less universe).
