Also, it occurred to me, that the scene with Jack and Dogen talking about their sons has a vibe of an all-human Buffy fanfic that use the same characters in a different (usually an everyday) situation. The same with Locke and Ben when they meet at school in the previous episode. I couldn't help but remember fics with "Buffy is a boisterous cheerleader, Spike is a shy teen..." type of premise.
