Excellent review and I pretty much agree with everything you said here. I didn't like the episode as much but that's more due to the interview I read afterwards...
Totally agree on Mary, that scene when they return to Galactica is amazing and also agree with you about Olmos. I just keep hearing how Emmy award winning the scene with him and Hogan was and I think Hogan was amazing but Olmos was a little OTT.
Ellen was a good choice in that I was really worried about how they were going to get away with the comment of 'there are four in your fleet' after Six had said 'there are five'. This made perfect sense as Six didn't know the five by face, yet D'Anna did and knew Ellen had been killed on New Caprica.
