I don't think that Locke is really dead either -- the "Help Me" is essentially a brand new storyline for him to explore.

I like the idea of Sun/Jin having parallels with Ben and his parents. I'm starting to think that Ben is the avatar of the island -- it's acting out his personal history by having all pregnant women die. It would explain why Ben is so desperate to get rid of Locke, who could easily replace him as that avatar with his innate understanding of/connection to the island.
