Presidentials
May. 6th, 2012 07:16 pmYES !!!!!!!!
HE IS OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's official, 17 years after Mitterrand we have a new François as president.
I don't expect much from François Hollande – he is a centrist, not a true socialist* –, I'm not going to celebrate his victory at La Bastille, but it's such a relief to be free of Sarkozy and his gang.
Hollande must be aware that this was a vote anti-Sarkozy not a support of his person and his politics.
No champagne, then, but I'm treating myself with a glass of Drambuie to drink to Sarkozy's defeat. I never liked Chirac but I just loathed everything Sarkozy.
*Hollande already embodies at least one big change. For the first time in our history we have a president who is not married, although he does live with a woman. Marriage is just not Hollande's thing even though he is in favour of "marriage for everybody" (either gay couples or heterosexual ones). His partner is a known journalist, and his former partner was Ségolène Royale (and mother of their four children) who Sarkozy beat in 2007...
ETA: I knew that Sarkozy could not win on my beloved cat's birthday! :- )
