Everything is connected
May. 9th, 2005 02:15 pmI used to see connections everywhere when watching my favourite show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Connections within the series or connections with literature, Mythologies, operas...Sometimes I wondered if those connections would have existed without me...probably no. But I have read Jorge Luis Borges and Umberto Eco so I know it doesn't matter. Works talk to works because of us, whether the authors meant it or not, and the echoes caught (or should I say provided) by our ears are not less real.
But one may wonder! Could Tom McRae whom I adore (you noticed this, perhaps)be a Buffy fan too, a Spike fan even? In his last album, All Maps Welcome, there's this song whose lyrics call a certain bleached boy to my mind...
My Vampire heart |
by Tom McRae |
Darling I'm lost Adrift in the dark I'm clutching your words To my vampire heart once more So let in the light Turn me to dust If it don't end in Bloodshed dear It's probably not love Here we are In the darkest place My reflection Shows only your face Something is found Something is lost Went looking for clues On the streets of old New York And I spilled someone's blood I broke someone's heart again Someone you know You're looking at him my friend And the people in our lives We all leave behind Leave behind Here we are In the darkest place To keep from forgetting I picture your face And I wonder While we count the cost Which is sweeter Love or it's loss So I curse you My vampire heart For letting me you love you Love you For letting me love you From the start
