For instance few people know that the members of "Le Comité de Salut Public", including Robespierre himself, had to be re-elected by the Convention every week.

I didn't know that - interesting. I suppose the question is, by the time the Committee took power, was the Convention still a functioning body or had it been purged into a compliant puppet? (By comparison, I'm thinking of the English House of Commons after Cromwell and the Army took power in 1649.)
