Ups and downs

I met up with my thesis supervisor and my unofficial advisor on Wednesday and they were both very pleased with my thesis' 8 page detailed plan which I had sent to them two weeks earlier. All they had to say was how great it was. They had nothing to say against the approach and the detailed structure and they found the ideas very interesting.

It was nice to hear that of course but, to be honest, I would have rather them quibble and question things so I would have something to work on. Sometimes I wonder what they are in for. Basically, I'm on my own.
They understood that it was an "ideal plan", that some parts already had meat on the bones, others were even almost done, but some were still virtual.

We agreed to have a panel in Spring 2014, in  which I would talk about the third part of the thesis (the one that is mostly only a skeleton), in order to stimulate me while giving me time to work on the documents (my Roman manuscript and an incunabulum that is in Paris but that I haven't seen yet) and see if the plan is achievable.

Speaking of the Vatican mansucript, La Sorbonne finally booked my flight for Rome so I have got my e-tickets. I was beginning to fear that I would not get them in time (or would have to buy them myself in extremis) since my new stay at l' Ecole Française de Rome was scheduled from the 2nd of March to the 11th (during the school break). I will be there in two weeks so I'll "see" the beginning of the conclave.

Now the downs...

I'm under the weather. I've caught a cold – hopefully it is not the flu – so I'm even more tired than I "should" be.

And Loukoum's condition is not great. He's been ill for 4 weeks now and is slowing losing his appetite – which could be connected to the fact that he is no longer on cortisone –; I managed to make him eat in the past two days but he has thrown up on Thursday morning, and again yesterday evening. This morning he barely ate.

I guess he's nauseous but also he's fed up with taking anitbiotics and having me harassing him with food, so he "hides" under the bed to sleep on my travel bag.

I hesitate to take him back to the vet clinic today (but of course today his usual vet isn't there, it's her replacement!), or wait, watch over him during the weekend and decide on Monday, except that I work on Monday up to 4 pm. If he weren't almost 18 years old I would wait.

*sigh*

I know, I'm obsessed...please, bear with me

I came across an article saying that John Hawkes is filming a movie that is the prequel of Jackie Brown. It's based on Elmore Leonard's Switch, and Leonard is one of the producers! A new connection between John Hawkes and Timothy Olyphant.

Now, I'm wishing for Elmore Leonard to talk John into guest-starring in an episode of Justified...

By the way, there's a new Justified episode on FX tonight, hopefully online tomorrow morning – I have Wifi since yesterday, and a new Internet connection, supposedly better than the previous one, so I need to try it!–...it's my personal carrot to go through a day of work.

I'm working on my thesis at home today. I have articles to read (which means reading and taking notes) and stuff to write.

Ready

I think I'm ready for:

1) Breaking Bad season 4. I watched "Peekaboo",  "Negro y Azul"*,  "4 days Out"(one of my favourites, I just love bottle episodes that focus on Walt and Jess and have them bonding), "ABQ" yesterday evening (yeah I went to bed very late, I blame the nap I had in the afternoon), and I skimmed through season 3 today before rewatching "Full Measures". I didn't rewatch "The Fly", best tv episode in years, because I had watched it not so long ago.
If I can't find the episode online tomorrow evening I will be like a meth-head longing for her dose! With the show being listed # 1 in almost all the Best 2010 tv series lists released in the media at the beginning of the year, the expectations about season 4 are very high.

2) Meeting up with Mr Magic tomorrow afternoon. I have reread certain notes I took and some parts of the chapters I translated from Latin, and I think I will able to talk about my topic and my work this year, without making a fool of myself...hopefully.
Okay, maybe I should reread a few things.

Can you tell that I'm a bit edgy?

* speaking of that episode I can't resist re-posting the video clip they made as the cold open! My crazy show, I love you so.

quia actiones humane in genere moris absolutam bonitatem non habent

I'm already halfway in Deadwood's season 2. I know I should slow down but it's addictive.

I have many things to say about "Requiem for a Gleet", "Complications (Formerly Difficulties") and "Something Very Expensive", and I need to write a proper post on the show, but I'm too tired right now so this ain't it.

OZ and BtVS are still very dear to me, always will be, but Deadwood truly is a gem (pun intended) and could become my favourite show ever.

Of course, when Breaking Bad will return in July I might sing another song!

Today, I spent hours translating a few pages bits from Brehal's Recollectio, the chapter about Jeanne's wearing male clothes and got stuck with bits on morality, borrowed from Thomas Aquinas' lectures, that were just so obscure, beyond understanding (both because of the concepts and the way they were written in Latin)...it was so frustrating, so hair-pulling, that I almost cried.

And then I go to the internet and it's all about Anthony Weiner's naughty bits!

The strange world I live in...
